About
I’m a songwriter living in Malawi. I was born and raised in England, and over the past years my life and music have moved between different places and cultures. That movement has shaped the songs in many ways — sometimes reflective, sometimes playful, but always rooted in storytelling.
I’ve been based in Malawi for more than a decade, working closely with musicians and learning from musical traditions where rhythm, narrative, and community are closely connected. At the same time, my songwriting roots remain strongly linked to the British folk tradition I grew up with. The music that has emerged sits somewhere between those influences: acoustic songs that travel between memory, observation, humour, and love.
Some songs are quiet and reflective, touching on themes of home, history, faith, and belonging. Others are lighter and more playful — quirky love songs, humorous narratives, and word-driven pieces that often come alive most fully in a live setting. I’ve always valued that balance. My grandmother used to say, “If you don’t laugh you’ll cry,” and I’ve never felt the need to choose between those two sides of life.
In recent years I’ve come to think of the work simply as stories in song. Some come from personal experience, others from people I’ve met or moments that stayed with me, but all are attempts to capture small human truths in a simple acoustic form.
Alongside the music, I also share writings and a podcast where I speak more directly about the ideas and experiences behind the songs. All of these belong to the same ongoing journey.
Thank you for being here and taking the time to listen.
